On the above battery, 1.4 amps is the maximum for 5 to 10 hours - at 1.25 amps it may become 6 to 12 hours - at 750 milliamps it may take 24 to 48 hours to reach a full charge during activation - after activation, 2 to 3 hours at 1.25 amps is usually long enough to get a Battery Tender to drop to the float charge of 1/10 amp, but 1/10 amp for 30 days my still damage the battery - the battery thrives on charge and discharge cycles, so I use an outlet timer to turn the tender on and off daily allowing the battery to discharge naturally before being recharged by the charger or vehicle charging system. The tender will maintain a charged AGM however. My 14 AH AGM requires 10 amps for and hour or 2 for 10 hours. Riding will charge it too but if it drops and does not get a charge then the battery starts to go bad (sulfate) AGM batteries have a rather high charge rate. They say that at 12.5 or lower volts you need to charge the battery. I am sure there is a lot of debate on leaving the battery connected to a charger all the time but I will at least connect mine one a week during the winter.
I use it to check my battery via the battery port and it shows that my battery is 12.6 volts where as turning on the key and checking the console reports the voltage lower and shows it dropping if I do not start the engine. Last month, I learned more about batteries and charging that I ever wanted to know but it is my understanding that the 1.25 Amp charger is better for the 14 Amp convention battery. Polaris also recommends a 2 Amp charger but based on the math you should really only use a 1.4 Amp charger for the14 Amp convention battery. Polaris recomends the Battery Minder but I found some marketing material by accident on their site instructing the stores to not sell the popular Battery Tender since they can make a larger profit on the Battery Minder.
